Recycle

We believe recycling is a key element to sustainable living. Plastic as we all know stays in the environment for a long time and is responsible for a huge amount of waste and pollution. In our industry the use of plastic containers is the standard. Almost every plant we sell is contained in plastic. Therefore, we have an obligation to be as responsible as possible with the plastic we use in our products. We believe the industry has a responsibility to recycle as much of our plastic stream as possible. The containers used in plant production if new and not recycled are used for a year or less for growth to use cycle. The majority of containers are in good condition after the plants have been removed. Containers of 1 gallon and larger in used but good condition can be reused several times. Smaller containers are less recyclable. Because of the different multiple types of sizes and flats they don’t lend themselves for reuse. Also, many smaller sized plants are planted by automated machines that require standard size in their production. Now many large nurseries also plant with automated machines that require standardized pots. But many of the smaller independent nurseries readily can and do use recycled containers. Our trees grown at the farm are almost 100% grown in recycled plastic. It not only makes sense for the environment but also as a business practice. Recycled containers are cheaper than new and there is no disadvantage. Moving forward let’s try to be responsible for our waste stream and recycle 1- gallon pots and larger as a standard practice. We at Leaf Landscape Supply gladly accept good condition used containers 1 gallon and larger. If our customers return them they can rest assured they will be recycled responsibly. While helping the environment they will be helping many independent growers maintain their cost of production. Moving forward let’s each personally contribute to a cause that can make a large difference on our impact on our and children’s environment. Take responsibility recycle.
